How to Lower Utility Bills in the Winter

Lower Utility Bills This Winter

There is some debate over whether you should turn off the thermostat when you’re not home, or keep the house heated so that it doesn’t take so much energy to warm it back up, not to mention avoiding the annoying wait for it to get comfortable again.

According to ENERGY STAR, the ideal solution is to cut back your thermostat by seven to 10 degrees for eight hours a day. That can be while you’re away from home or bundled up at night. Either way, ENERGY STAR reports this strategy can save as much as 10 percent a year in heating and cooling costs and is easy to do if you install a timer device or have a programmable thermostat.1
